On my quest to find a good Chinese food restaurant on the Northwest side of Chicago, a friend of mine recommended this restaurant. My friend added that her son and niece loved and frequented this place. So I decided to give it a try, on the Chinese New Year Day! I ordered carry out and waited 35 minutes for my food and I was the only person in the restaurant. My order included Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Shrimp Fried Rice and Singapore Noodles. Where do I start? My kids and I were so hungry and couldn't wait to get home. The funny thing about our ride home, I noticed that I didn't smell the deliciousness of the food, especially since Chinese Food will let its presence known, especially in the car! First, I tried the Singapore noodles, and they were very bland, I think they forgot to add the curry spice and soy sauce. Next, I tried the Kung Pao Chicken, it was extremely bland and watery, I was very dissapointed since Kung Pao Chicken is one of my favorite dishes. I tried the shrimp fried rice, unfortunately this was bland and the rice was hard, not fully cooked, I hope that I don't get indigestion tonight!!! I saved the best for last, well figuratively speaking! The final dish I tried was the Mongolian Beef, and the large amount of onions mixed amongst the little scraps of meat made me think "where's the beef?". This dish was blended in with a peculiar tasting brown sauce, at first I couldn't pin point it. After each bite, I had a strong bitter after taste. I finally figured it out, the noodles were rancid, and yes my nose confirmed it, that peculiar smell of rancidness, ugh! So much for my quest to find a good Chinese Food Restaurant on the North Side. I can't believe that this place received good reviews, bland pallets, I guess. I absolutely do NOT recommend this place. Very dissapointed!!!!!

Very uneven food quality. It seemed to be better in early 2010, but seems to have changed management or cooks or something. I used grubhub to have food delivered the last time I ordered, and when the food came it was inedible. When I called to complain, they told me to bring the food back. The point of delivery is to not have to get in the car! Anyway, I received my money back from grubhub without incident, but will not order from here again.

I wouldn't go back. Food was blah. I ate in the restaurant and service was horrible... I got up and got my own silverware and napkins. Never brought water. I agree.. the girl just played on her laptop with her boyfriend the entire time. Doesn't accept discover card either. Go to Sun Eng a little further South on Harlem... way better food staff and a great lunch special!

I phoned in an order and picked it up recently and the food was super hot and tasty. My family shared the orange chicken, szechwan green beans crab rangoon and fried rice. They were all very good and I will order from there again. I am kindof shocked at the bad reviews because I know the hair salon I go to orders from them all the time and everyone loves it.

I live in the neighborhood and was driving by and decided to drop in and pick-up some take out. The few things that I've tried I liked, with one small exception, the Mongolian Beef. The Mongolian beef was tasty but a little dry. The hot and sour soup is really delicious and the menu is huge. The prices are affordable. The young girl behind the counter seems to be a little short with the customers, she always seems to be in a huge hurry to get back to her laptop. Overall, if you live in the neighborhood and want some decent Chinese food, this is a good place.

This place has been a go-to place for my family for years when looking for Chinese delivery. They used to be really good (but pretty greasy). Our staples were the combo fried rice, combo lo mein, and some other things here and there. Since Golden River's expanded their menu, the quality of their dishes have suffered greatly. I don't think they should have expanded to korean and thai dishes to expand their clientele; now everything is just barely mediocre. If not greasy, the food gets really bland. The meat is really dry and just overall not worth it. The portions are still huge which makes it good bang for your buck; but even so, i can't even stomach the ginormous amount of left overs. Most recently got egg foo young and it was charcoal on the bottom and barely cooked on top. pretty disappointing all throughout. Go elsewhere.

Inedible. I ordered a shrimp lunch special here that came with fried rice, pop and an egg roll. The shrimp part was actually good, but the fried rice was so disgusting, I can't even tell what was on the fried rice, it was caked in some sort of goo. I tried eating some of it because I was hungry, but I abandoned most of it and got sick from what I did eat. And the vegetables were blah. I'll never eat here again.

This was the 2nd restaurant that I've ordered from since I moved to Chicago. The delivery was on time and the driver was very nice. I ordered Sesame Chicken, Egg Drop Soup, and Beef Teriyaki. I liked it so much that I don't want to keep looking anymore for another Chinese restaurant. The flavors were simple, but in a good way. The food was hot, flavorful, and nothing was overpowering, greasy, or too heavy. I can't wait to try more of the food on their menu!

I usually order from them through grubhub. The food arrives hot even the egg rolls. For hot fast chinese food I have no complaints about this place it is exactly what I expect its going to be everytime. Of course when I want something other then the American version of chinese food I head to China town but this does in the mean time.

Since I work from home, I order delivery about once a week. I decided that Chinese was a good option, which is RARE for me. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken and Crab Rangoon. First of all, I love Crab Rangoon, but HATED this! It was burnt, and had very little filling. I am not sure if the Kung Pao Chicken had some new ingredient in it, but there were corners of plastic sauce packets (4) in my food. I was shocked! I will NEVER order from this place again. I am sure, as an honest man, that this may not be typical of most visits, but for me, it was a deal breaker. Time to find that perfect Chinese restaurant that is not slathered in tons of oil, overcooked, and plastic-y!

I'll will never order from this place again. The staff was rude and not attentive. I heard the cooks laughing and sneezing couple times in the kitchen so loud that i can hear them from outside. I dumped the food.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
